THE TRARALGON & DISTRICT HISTORICAL SOCIETY INC

THE TRARALGON RACING CLUB Incorporated. (ROY VODDEN)
(M. Fullard)

At our October meeting (13.10.98), Mr. Roy Vodden was Guest Speaker. He has been President of The Traralgon Racing Club Incorporated for the last 3 years and has been an owner, breeder, trainer and punter for over 25 years. He has seen many changes in that time.

In 1983 a computerized totalisator was introduced and in 1987 the Club was incorporated. In 1989, when the Traraigon Cup was worth $25,000 to the winner, the date of running the Cup meeting was changed from February to mid-November to fit in with the Victorian Spring Racing Season.

The Club has grown and prospered. In 1977 income was $177,462 and in 1997 income was $1,146,000. Paving, gardens, a public dining room, the banking of the home turn and major drainage works have all improved the facilities. There are 11 meetings a year and the Traralgon Cup is now worth $40,000. The Club is confident of continued success.

President Jim Hood thanked Mr. Vodden for his interesting talk and presented him with a memento.
